Collaborative music video project: ‘Dog morph’, Dust FX (Erik van der Tier)

In this project, I had the pleasure to contribute dust effects. This is something, I’d wanted to do since I watched breakdowns of loads of dust fx for ‘Prince of Persia’. So, I was really happy when Marijn asked me to work on this shot. As a refresher, I’ve included the final graded shot below:

More pyro fun; explosions

I’m doing more research on using the PyroFX tools both for a potential project and for my ‘House Meteor’ project. These require quite a lot more sophisticated simulation setups than gas flames as discussed in Pilot lights.

After a few really basic test setups, I ended up creating a very simple structure within which the explosion is to take place. (more…)

Pilot lights

It’s been too long since my last post. The reason for that is simple… I’ve been very busy on the paid work front and some other stuff. One of the things I’ve been working on recently is a new short film currently in post-production from fxPHD. In this project, I’m working on the pilot light of a flame thrower. So it was time to pull out Houdini’s PyroFX :) . And that’s a lot of fun!
